Did you just get engaged? Mazal Tov! select the date. For a Jewish marriage, it's not just a matter of weather or availability. The Hebrew calendar includes whole days and periods when no marriage is celebrated.

Here is the full guide for 2027: the rules to know, the dates to avoid month by month, and the most requested slots to reserve as a priority.

The main rules in brief

  • No wedding on Shabbat or on holiday. The Shabbat begins on Friday evening and ends on Saturday at nightfall. That's why Sunday is the wedding day par excellence in France, followed by Thursday and Saturday evening in winter, when Shabbat ends early.
  • No weddings during the holidays or during Hol Hamoed. We do not mix two joys: Pessah, Chavuot, Roch Hashana, Yom Kippur, Soukkot and Simhat Torah are therefore excluded, including the half-fests of Pessah and Soukkot.
  • No wedding on fasting days Taanit Esther, 17 Tammuz, Tisha BeAv, Tsom Guedalia, 10 Tevet.
  • The Omer Period, between Pessah and Chavouot, is a period of partial mourning. Marriages are suspended, with a very expected exception: Lag BaOmer.
  • Three Weeks, from the 17 Tammuz to Tisha BeAv, commemorate the destruction of the Temple. We don't celebrate a wedding.

The use varies by community (sefarades, Ashkenazes, and families). This guide provides general benchmarks: Always confirm your date with your rabbi Before you sign anything.
